The kitchen is the heart and soul of the Jewish home. It is where food memories are made; recipe creations are treasured, and culinary heirlooms are born and shared. From time to time we will be sharing information about new appliances, kitchen design, kitchen layouts and more, all focused on the kosher and Sabbath observant lifestyle.
To launch our new series, we are researching the following questions with kitchen experts including, retailers, designers and appliance manufacturers, and of course, with our readers, Facebook followers, Twitterpals and new friends on Pinterest.

Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Petition
Sign the Petition - KosherEye friend Iris Richman contacted us with the following information:
I just created a petition: Trader Joe's: Keep chocolate chips non-dairy - certified as pareve, because I care about this important issue. Similar to the success when Duncan Hines and Stella D'Oro reversed plans to make previously pareve products dairy, I'm hoping that we can convince Trader Joe's as well.

Trader Joe's Chocolate Chips
No longer Dairy Free. The OK Kosher Certification Agency has announced that Trader Joe's chocolate chips are no longer going to be parve. In our opinion, these are the best parve chocolate chips available to the home baker. Parve chocolate chips are popular with both kosher observant cooks and dairy free households. We suggest you contact Trader Joe's and let them know how you feel. They are usually very receptive to customer comments.

Decadent Fudgy Brownies

Aloe in the Kitchen- A Burning Tip!
Do you keep an aloe plant in your kitchen? You should. The Aloe plant has numerous benefits in addition to its common use as a sunburn remedy. Aloe is an easy plant to nurture, very little care is needed. It is a succulent with a natural capacity for water storage. This means it requires minimal attention and is easy to keep healthy.
We keep Aloe “at the ready” in our kitchens. It provides soothing first aid for minor kitchen burns and cuts… those injuries common to “in a rush” cooks and chefs. We simply break off a stem, squeeze, and apply the liquid gel inside the stem to our burn. Not only is it soothing and moisturizing, but the Aloe seems to speed up the healing process. It is also said to be antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Its medicinal properties can be documented as far back as Ancient Egypt and Greece.
The broken stem does not regenerate, but additional stems will be produced regularly. Keep the plant near a sunny window, and water VERY sparingly.
Aloe plants are easily available at nurseries, garden stores and in supermarket plant departments. |
